About ChainIO
ChainIO is a permissioned blockchain platform for multi-stakeholder IoT governance in smart cities and regulated industry. Instead of each department owning a siloed database, sensor events are anchored on a shared ledger with protocol-level endorsement and automated compliance evaluation.
The governance gap
CEMS and ambient monitoring data in India often suffers from low availability and disputed readings. Root causes include weak oversight between inspections and fragmented agency systems — not only sensor tampering. Technology enables better governance; policy still determines enforcement.
What ChainIO adds
When city, regulatory, and platform operators must agree on ground truth, a permissioned ledger enforces 2-of-3 endorsement at the protocol level. Smart contracts record compliance breaches immutably. Public verification proves a dashboard reading matches the anchored record.
PoC verticals
This prototype demonstrates the same trust loop on smart-city AQI (CAAQMS-style) and industrial CEMS emissions — the two verticals in scope for the 30-day PoC. Additional domains (water, lighting) are future scope.
Honest boundaries
Blockchain does not stop physical device tampering or fix regulatory inaction on its own. ChainIO addresses disputed multi-party truth and automated rule recording. Hardware security and policy reform remain necessary complements.
Three organisations, one channel
Channel chainio-poc runs peers for ChainIO Platform (OrgPlatform), City ULB (OrgULB), and State PCB (OrgPCB). Write transactions require majority endorsement — a deliberate answer to “why not a central database with signatures?”
